Celebrating Earth Day in Jack London Square

by Stephanie Schwarzmiller on April 19th, 2012

Recently, Oakland has been drawing awareness to food sustainability within urban settings. Farmer’s markets and community gardening have become quintessential elements to Oakland: however, many cityslickers concerned with their impact on the environment are left scratching their heads for how they can begin their reduction of energy, switching from shopping at corporate grocery stores to local stores and produce stands, and not killing their plants. Never fear- Earth Day is here!

To celebrate Earth Day, April 22, the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market will be hosting the Earth Day Fair just down the street from the Ellington at Jack London Square. All Sunday, there will be fun and interactive events, speakers, and workshops to learn how to cut your impact. For the cherry on top of this green sundae, at 12:30 there will be a talk and book signing by local celebrity/urban farmer Novella Carpenter! For more information, like their facebook page or their event schedule

Come celebrate our planet at the Earth Day Fair this Sunday and interact with our amazing community, much on some local veggies, and begin your new eco-friendly life just down the street from the Ellington!
